Poached eggs are a popular breakfast in my household. So when I saw these Wiltshire Poachies on the shelf, I was intrigued and knew I had to try them.

How they work

The Poachies are 2 egg shaped pieces of paper, placed one on top of another.
One end is sealed for the egg to cook in, and the other end is left open to insert the egg and to be used as flaps to hold onto the sac.

Place the water to boil in a saucepan or deep frypan.
When the water is bubbling prepare the Poachie.

Place the Poachie in a glass or a cup ( I used a Pyrex measuring cup ,

and this worked well as it is short and has a wide brim).
Open the flaps so as to make an opening to drop the egg in.

Next, crack the egg into the Poachie,
lift the Poachie and immerse in the bubbling water.

Cook the egg for 4-6 minutes, depending on how firm you like your poached eggs.

Shake the cooked poached egg from the Poachie.

Ready to serve.

Problems

1. The shape of the poached egg using the Poachies is somewhat conical, so it does not have the same visual appeal as a poached egg immersed in water,
which cooks in a nice oval shape.

2. As soon as the egg in cracked into the Poachie, the egg white does leach a little through the bag so I can see why the instructions say to immerse it immediately in the bubbling water. Placing the Poachie in the bubbling water has the effect of immediately setting the egg white and stops it leaking through the bag.
I would suggest working close to the stove so you can quickly place
the Poachie into the bubbling water.

Benefits

1. The Poachie’s are made of paper, which, for health and environmental reasons,
is preferable to plastic

2. The Poachie’s are disposable – minimizing time for cleaning

3. The saucepan was super easy to clean! Great for already busy mornings.

4. Cooking poached eggs in the conventional way, you could cook 2-4 poached eggs, depending on the size of the pot/pan. However, using the Poachies, you can potentially cook more (if you were entertaining or have a big family)
as the eggs are contained in the Poachie sacs.

 5. The poached eggs using the Poachies don’t need to be attended to during the cooking process, compared to the conventional way,
whereby you have to spoon the warm water over the yolk
for them to cooked evenly.

Overall

I followed the instructions for a 4 minute poached egg
and the Poachies worked exactly as promised.
I think it’s a wonderful kitchen product.
